She looks a little Asian

Trip to Martyr's Park

Our day began with a trip to the Martyr's Park, a very nice, lush park.  I (Brian) was overwhelmed at how big the park was and that there was a giant lake at the backside of the park. As we entered we focused in on the music being played and several different groups of people dancing to various music.  Besides the guy trying to sell whistles, we heard occasional birds singing in the thick trees. The center building is the memorial site for the martyr's.

Here a group of ladies were dancing as if a class were being held here.  Our guide Amy said, especially during the summer that people will be here from sunrise to sunset dancing in the park.

The lush grounds made the city live just disappear, something we haven't seen in over a week.  Of course, in Colorado where we live that is hard to find as well. The park had beautiful scenery.

We walked up to a pond that had stepping stones placed in there for you to walk across, here we are just getting a happy photo with Tabetha Hope.
Amanda ventured out onto the stones and surprisingly didn't fall into the pond.  The stepping stones were acutally a cement wall that had cut outs which surfaced above the water level so the stones were not going to move.  The water did look murky and deep, but hard to say.

Tabetha Hope really enjoyed watching the Koi, in the fish pond. There was a couple of them that were the size of a small child, seriously they had to be 20-30 lbs and 3 feet long.  While we were walking by we saw a fisherman catch a decent size fish from a different pond, large enough we could see it from across the pond.

By now Zhen Zhen was getting tired of being in the stroller, having photos taken and was done with the park, Amy really wanted another family photo.

Some of the best finds in the park were the signs about the grass or park.

The best memory from the park though had to be a group of people playing on traditional Chinese instruments.  Here a gentlemen is playing a Pipa a stringed instrument that he was plucking. Some of the others were playing a Erhu kind of like a two stringed violin.  They were making great music as we passed by, so we stopped to listen and take photos of them playing.

After leaving the park another great memorable moment was when we asked our guide to stop at the pharmacy to get Amanda more cough drops.  Here in some pharmacies they have "doctor's" who first diagnose you then allow you to get what you need.  They checked Amanda's throat and then either asked if she had surgery or wanted surgery on her throat.  While Amanda was getting checked out Tabetha Hope and her daddy were checking out some of the finer traditional Chinese medicines, like the critters seen here. Yum!  Do you boil it first or just nibble on it?

Finally before catching a taxi home, Tabetha Hope stared at these cute little guys, not sure what she should do, but she just watched them as they drank their milk and scurried around playing with each other.

So she is Asian.  While loading up the stroller into the taxi, the driver came out to help out with getting the stroller to cooperate and into the trunk.  Driving along he says to Amy, hmm, baby looks a little asian.  Amy turns to us and laughs and interprets to us that Zhen Zhen looks a little asian.  I chuckled and said back to her, she does, does she, hmm I wonder why.  :)  Have a great day!

That is too funny! Thought the gene pool was kinda murky there too, huh?
I love your pictures! You are getting such great shots. It is so wonderful to see Tabetha Hope smiling in your arms. How long will Amy be with you? I'll bet it is so nice to have here there. Glad you are having enjoyable moments, may you make many wonderful memories.
